Hi Tony

Well done with the backing track. I love the melody.
Could you make another recording but without the saxophone part
or with another instrument for the solo part.

I would love to play tenor saxophone along with this tune.

Love

Play Georgia on My Mind with the help of Band in a Box

Creating your own backing tracks in Band in a Box is so very rewarding
building up a tune and adding interest. The results can be quite professional using
Version 2012-5 with realtracks.

This mp3 was one of my first attempts of the arrangement.
I need to practice playing my tenor saxophone and improve timing and tone
production.

My setup I like to use Sibelius to print the notation, import the midi file
From Band in a Box. Add graphics and note heads.

This sample recording (you can copy the .mp3 by right clicking your mouse  [save link as]).
http://learnsax.co.uk/play/mp3/georgia%20on%20my%20mind.mp3

My setup for this recording used a Windows 7 lap top computer with a Blue Yeti usb microphone.

I used Auadacity ver 2.0.2. For the live capture of the recording just one track and just one pass..

The Yamaha PSR520 keyboard with a usb interface produced a far superior midi sound compared to the PC audio.

The Band in a Box 2012-5 realtracks/soloist created those high quality extra audio drums and bass to the PC speaker.

Some experimentation was needed for positioning the microphone.
Microphone to Yamaha keyboard 2ft.
Microphone to PC speakers 6ft.
Tenor sax 10ft.

Let us know what you think??
Tony

The current release of Audacity is 2.0.2.

Band In a Box / Band-in-a-Box common file exte...
Last post by Tony Edge - August 30, 2012, 02:41:56 PM
Band-in-a-Box common file extension names.

Band-in-a-Box song files end in a ?G? file extension.
If the song has a melody, the extension begins with an 'M'. If the song doesn't have a melody, it begins with an 'S'.
The second letter of the extension is always a G.
The third letter refers to the style that the song uses. 1-9 and A-N refer to the original "built-in" styles (for example, ZZJAZZ.STY, ZZWALTZ.STY) and U refers to a "User" style (actually, any other style).

Example 1: MySongTitle.MGU
The M tells us that the song has a melody.
The G is always present in song names telling us that it is a song.
The U tells us that the style is a user style.
Example 2: MySongTitle.SG1
The S tells us that the song doesn't have a melody.
The G is always present in song names telling us that it is a song.
The 1 indicates that the song uses Style #1, which is Jazz Swing (ZZJAZZ).
MGX. This refers to songs that contain an entire MIDI file on the Melody track. For example, if you had used File | Open MIDI file (Band-in-a-Box 2004 or later), or the MIDI file Style Wizard (Band-in-a-Box 12 and later).
Version bib 2012-5 have a new engine built to support the brilliant new MIDI SUPER TRACKS. The extension is *.SGU.

Version 2012 Style naming conventions:

_MyStyle.sty is a RealStyle.
The = (equal sign) prefix for styles that have some MIDI parts, but at least one RealTracks instrument. You can browse through styles without ever hearing MIDI.
A + sign at the end of the style name. For example, MyStyle+.STY would be a MultiStyle.
The prefix of the style with the # symbol, it is a Norton Music Style http://www.nortonmusic.com

The Band in a Box 2012 style picker window
Substitution of the style already selected for your song. BB is quite intelligent
When a *(Star) or ^ (up arrow) these styles are the possible alternatives depending on how close a substitution.

The style picker window also displays the BB music collection number for downloading #0 is the defaults supplied free with BB.

Last post by littleplum - August 30, 2012, 11:06:59 AM
Well after our Manchester event which was a success, we were approached to run one in the York area.  After a bit of research we have found a venue and the event is booked for the 14th October (Sunday) 2012 in Thirsk

The address is:-
The Rural arts centre
The Old Courthouse
4 Westgate
Thirsk
N. Yorkshire
YO7 1QS

The day will consist of 3 sessions

1. large saxophone choir
2. Small groups and performance
3. Improvisation and performance

The day is open to anyone aged 11 upwards and with a minimum of 12 months playing experience.

Registration starts at 9.30 and playing begins at 10am until 3pm with 30 minutes for lunch.  The premises have free parking and an onsite cafe for lunch time.

Cost of the day is ?30 per person and the aim is to make it fun and challenging at the same time.
Some of the music will be sent out 2 weeks before the event, and a little bit is kept back for working on sight reading.
Tony came on the Manchester event and enjoyed himself, it would be great to see some others from this forum joining us.

Check our face book page StaxofSax or www.daveplummer.net  there are both videos and pictures to look at.

Feel free to contact me on 07736 471861 or staxofsax@gmail.com

Look forward to hearing from you

Hi Tony

Thanks for posting this advert, we had a really good day with 19 of the 20 spaces filled.

We had a really good Beatles medley for the large ensemble piece that everyone seemed to enjoy.

If you check the Staxofsax facebook page there are some videos and photos of the day.

I just about to start a new thread for a workshop in Thirsk if anyone is interested.

Thanks again and best wishes
