Title: Find the best saxophone mouthpiece pads, cushions
Post by: Tony Edge on May 06, 2011, 11:30:50 PM
Why are saxophone mouthpiece protector cushions/pads so expensive?

My alto sax mouthpiece (Yamaha 4C) is showing quite deep teeth marks.
I tried some Yamaha .5mm clear pads they work nicely but only last about 7 days. Turning them 180 degrees gives a bit more life.
Surely it must be possible to buy a bulk sheet of the material and cut your own.
So far after testing various electrical tapes and cycle puncture repair patches none seem to be ideal.

During a saxophone lesson my teacher a brilliant saxophone player Steve Wiltshire www.gig224.com (http://www.gig224.com)
suggested buying the A10 0.8mm French BG mouthpiece cushions the website http://www.accessoires-bgfrance-instruments.com (http://www.accessoires-bgfrance-instruments.com)
A quick search on Ebay found a site selling six pads for 4 pounds 99.
They arrived in the post almost next day. I must say they feel good and protect not only your mouthpiece but your teeth.
