Message received from Dave regarding Saxophone Workshop.
Just wanted to announce that we have got a date for the next StaxofSax Saxophone Workshop. June 16th 2024.
We have a new venue this year, which has plenty of parking (always important.)The Broadway Centre in Sandown, Isle of Wight.
Its open to anyone aged 13 and above, with a minimum of 12 months experience.
We will cover small and large ensemble work, Technique and tone, and a lot of other important saxophone related learning.
We have been able to keep the cost the same as last year, £30 per person.
The timings and venue are on the flyer below. I know a lot of you came last year, and we had a great day. It would be lovely if you could make it again, a good chance for people to put a face to a name for this group.
Any questions, or you would like to reserve a space, please get in touch.
Be quick as we are limited to 30 spaces.

I have over 500 popular songs arranged for tenor saxophone that are easy to play with note heads so you don?t have to learn to read music.
If you have an Apple Ipad.  Sibelius Scorch Plugin costs Just ?1.99 from Apple appstore
https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/avid-scorch/id436394592?mt=8

For more information visit the developers website

https://www.avid.com/products/avid-scorch

The player is amazing you play along with score at any speed you can transpose to a different key and mute the backing tracks.
The standalone Avid Sibelius is very expensive but the Plugin uses part of the Sibelius engine. So the audio quality is superb and a bargain plugin at ?1.99
You only have to get a friend or bandmaster that has Avid Sibelius and convert a midi file to a *.sib

I can send you some samples if you wish in PDF or *.sib.

There is another scorch program for a PC but is quite different although free
It is very basic and fussy about browsers.

Hello Yorkie

Thank you for visiting the forum.  What a wonderful wife buying a saxophone for your birthday.
Age is no barrier with learning saxophone it just needs lots of practice.
Don?t be discouraged if you can?t get the sound you would like. This will improve in no time.
My first tip would be to see if you get a few lessons for getting the basics.

YouTube is fantastic for tutorials on getting started and even advanced techniques.

I love the tenor saxophone. It?s so expressive and the sound is so dynamic and not that difficult to play the fingering looks strange at first but it?s quite easy.
As years go bye you will continue to improve.
With the help of computers being unable to read music is no hindrance.

I started playing saxophone aged over 65. After a few months I could play some carols for Christmas.

Keep us posted on how you are getting on.

What songs or music would you like to play?

Impro-Visor (short for ?Improvisation Advisor?) is a free music notation program designed to help jazz musicians compose and hear solos similar to ones that might be improvised.

Over the years the program has evolved and many new features have been added to the program.

Today I had a question from one of my music pals Peter.
Please can you help I needed to backup my Windows 7 music files on drive D:  to my new and freshly formatted Sata 500GB disc drive E:   I used Windows 7 copy and paste the copy has been running for 12 hours and is no where complete. Finally I aborted the copy.
Windows copy performance was about 30mb per second.
Can I do something to increase the copy speed
                                ROBOCOPY

Hi Peter yes we can speed this up almost 100 times faster.
Microsoft have a command line tool called robocopy
Copy all of D: disk drive to E: drive and maintain dates created

Type in the following command line in a dos command prompt. To save time just copy and paste the following

robocopy D:\  E:\ /MIR /R:0 /W:0  /XD  "$RECYCLE.BIN" "System Volume Information" "RECYCLER"  /COPY:DT /DCOPY:T

(the dos command is available in All Programs, Accessories, Command Prompt.)

Many thanks to my good friend William Johnson Music Composer to Setup Yamaha PSR 740 keyboard ready for a try at improvisation.

Why a midi keyboard on a saxophone web site you may ask.
I started playing saxophone at over the age of over 60 without any music training and unable to read music.
Both friends and musicians have commented on my progress. You sound really good.
I put this down to playing along with a Yamaha Psr keyboard with an XG Midi sound set and arranging the midi file for Saxophone.
Composing and playing along with Sibelius 6 Software is great fun.
Adding note heads helps with reading. My faithful Yamaha PSR 520 is great for playing from the computer
the only problem visiting friends have difficulty with styles and saving to external media.
My new S/H Yamaha Psr740 Bought for ?160 solves this problem.
Please visit learnsax youtube channel again and of course William Johnson music composer on YouTube.
